I am wondering about detailing a 56 44MH. I have it almost stripped down and want to start painting the small stuff back to proper colors. I think the starter, gen., and regulator were all black?? And were they gloss or flat?? Want to put as close to right as possible since it's in sooooo many pieces now. I mainly want to know what isn't red. Thanks. Fred

Kind of a spin going here: no '56 44's. Better to
post the S/N before painting. The last classic 44
was built in 1953, that series, the 40K, was in
production two years,'52-'53. All S/N's 40-47K.
44 Specials had S/N's 50-60K. The '56-'57 MH's
were Triple 4's, the five color challenge to paint
correctly. What do you have?

It's a '53 44. Sorry bout that, was using my memory file instead the computer file. Got all 3 tractors in the comp. and was too lazy to open the file. Anyway I want to detail it some not nessicarily origional but want to make sure what isn't supposed to be red isn't. It'll be a workhorse when done so perfect resto isn't the goal but I don't like the all red appearance. Thanks guys. Fred

The voltage regulator did have a black cover, the Donaldson air breather assembly can be all black, including the tube and cap. Since '52 30's slipped through with outsourcer's paint, you don't want so much red, this is your start. Gen's that were rebuilt came back, painted black, same with starters. Most rebuild shops spray on black, like having a radiator fixed , they always spray in black. The exhaust manifold black will last longer with that barbeque grill black heat paint. The air stack better in satin black. Avoid flat black, ditto gloss black. Inner axle shafts stay red. Hubs, bolts, outer axle flats are straw yellow. Good luck.

Everything you list is painted MH Red. Wheels, rims and decals are MH Yellow.
