I need to remove the knife on a Massey #12 baler to resharpen. Can't seem to find an easy method to get to the bolts holding the knife. Has anyone found a way to do this? The manual doesn't indicate how to get to the bolts.

Steve

One has to lay in on top of the pickup to get at the plunger knife. The stationary knife can be accsessed by lifting the upper bale tension bar.
They are allen headed 1/2 inch tapered head bolts.
Make sure all of the debris is out of the allen head before trying to remove them. You can it eh head with a hammer and puch will sometimes loosen them enough to get them with allen head socket on a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar. I usually heat the head of the bolt with a torch until cherry red and remove them as soon as possible. If the allen head is worn out I've had to weld 5/8 nuts on the them and use a socket to get them out.

I was afraid you were going to tell me that..can't see to find a comfortable position on top of the pickup...keep getting impaled by the pickup teeth...plus it seems one has to be child size to fit in there..
Thanks again.

OW! that brings back memories, taking the ram knife out of an AC 300 baler. Those pick-up teeth get everywhere! put plenty of sacks on top of the reel.
