My friend has a MH 101 Jr. Twinpower. He's trying to get a production date. We looked for the serial number and found one in the casting just next to the transmission lever. That number appears to be 7407A. The problem is that looking at the numbers for the 101 Jr. on this site, they are all six digits and no letters. Does anybody have any information on how these 101 Jr. Twinpowers were numbered? Were they numbered differently from the 101 JR? He thinks the tractor was bought in 1942.

Thanks,

Steve

When you say next to the transmission lever, you must be referring to the shift lever right? Do you think your friend is reading maybe a casting number that is cast right into something? The serial number is hand stamped on the upper machined surface of the tranny/differential housing. It is between the shifting platform and the steel plate that covers the rear end gears. It is on the left edge of this upper machined surface in the vicinity of where the clutch pedal is when it is disengaged. It is probably covered with paint and crud so you'll have to do some scratching around to find it, plus some weren't really stamped in too deep. Obviously the left-side oval tin plate is missing, the serial number is there too. Once you find it (if you do) then you could easily ID the year. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, we were talking about the cast in number. I'll give him a call and have him do some scraping to look for the stamped in one.
