My 1957 MF 50 has one small problem. It seems to run a bit rich, no matter what I do. The ignition is in top shape, and timed right. The carb has been re-built twice. (The first time, I thought that I might have done something wrong.) The motor has great compression, and the valves are in new shape. I just want's to run rich. I get a little black smoke around the tailpipe, and the spark plugs look a bit black, sooner than they should. Am I running too cold of a plug? Too hot? I,m using Autolite 3116. I have even tried to use a "low restriction" K&N air filter, in place of the oil bath. We have had this tractor since it was new. It has started running rich, gradually over the last year.

Maybe the float has a small leak in it, letting it sink in the gas and not close the inlet off. If so, you would here it slosh around inside it if you took out the float and shook it. Also, maybe the float is level set a little high.

Thanks Randy, The trouble started about a year ago. I suspected a carb problem then. I still do. I have rebuilt it 2 times. Maybe the float is leaking. I have set the float level, many times over the years, (on this same tractor). Never been a problem (yet). In any event, I'm glad it a gas tractor. Old injector pumps are much more trouble. Thanks again, Bill
