steven,

I had a 44 Special with the same setup, but never did figure it out. I have a manual for a 444 which I read that it is similar. I could see about gettin some copies and sendin them to ya, if you'd think it would help ya out.

yes that would be great brad. i cant seem to figure out what in the world makes them work so. off the land, i will never be able to get them parts from him, he is a guy that likes to rip people off, and if you complain he will still shoot you with salt shot and that aint a lie. it is dry in both brake compartments but greese, it ran, but i have the carb tore apart. i seem to think that the rear end still has fluid, i used it for rakeing last summer, it has a rear main seal that is out on it and i am going to be looking for a rebuild kit for the engine as soon as i can affoid it. but i also have my eyes on a 44D and a 444 oh oh oh!!!

Steven,
The brake/live clutch repair seems secondary, to
the engine problems. Most rear main seals fail
due to crank shaft vibration. You need possible
cut on the crank, new main, rod bearings. If pre-
42,000 S/N 44, that style rear seal is about $85.
Is this tractor in great condition? You need to drop a bundle into parts, throughout. Some issues
on worn 444's: they ALL need input shafts, the
hi/lo has tired gears, live PTO clutches slip.
The 44 Special RC is stronger, only the PTO live
clutch would be an issue. The rear main on the
Special is the simplier design. If you're going to
work it, better to run a Special. Does the live PTO clutch function, on your 44? Lots to consider
here. What is the S/N? This is helpful!

I will see bout gettin those photocopies tommorow, I'll let ya know, then I'll need a address.

I dunno where you are located, but a local guy here in Maybee MI gets all my parts cheap (a complete overhaul kit for my WC Allis was like $650... and that was bout a year ago, everyone else was around $900 for the kit.

He'd may able to get it shipped to you too, I dunno how all that works really.

Steven, Wouldn't it be easier to go back to the seller of the 44, and search his scrap metal pile, for the parts he removed? Asking more questions, what did
he do? How can we know which bolt is missing? If
he tossed a rusted, or broken part? These parts
run close on 44's,Specials, Triples, but a few
updates happened between 1950 & 1957. What is the S/N of your tractor? It is a running tractor, no
brakes? Brake seals leak? Any gear oil left in the
transmission case? Get back to us...Good luck with
the parts from the seller.
