I'm looking at a MF135 for sale in my area (FL). It's a 3cyl Diesel with P/S and remote hyd. hookup. It's got around 2700 hrs on it and asking $6K. Price seems high to me (from what I've seen on this forum), but the tractor looks to be in pretty good shape and all original. Sheetmetal is straight, 3cyl diesel fires right up and runs clean, I don't see signs of any bad current or past fluid leaks and the tires are pretty good. The only concerns that I have at the moment is that the brakes seem mediocre and the lift seeps down when you shut off the engine. I would anticipate having to rebuild the brakes at some point, but I'm more concerned about the 3-pt lift. I've read in this forum that seeping is normal, but that the lift shouldn't "fall steady". With a finishing deck on it, it fell in roughtly 45 seconds - and looked pretty "steady" to me. I need some advice. Is this cause for alarm? Are the hydraulics on their last leg? How difficult would they be to fix?

I've never owned a tractor and need one to do some brush hogging and eventual field mowing. I've worked on cars in the past, but never tractors - and never diesel and hydraulics. I don't mind turning a wrench from time to time, but I need something reliable and relatively trouble free. Am I expecting too much from a 30+ year old tractor?

I have the exact tractor...mine goes down too when the engine is shut off and an impliment is attached...I think it may be normal...as I was worried about it too. 6K is not too much if it's nice! Mine is 99% / have 7K in it.

Hello I would think it is a good buy Becouse there a great tractor. we have one for the past 7 years and it has never given any trouble. the lifts are the same in ours just turn off the tractor and there gone down. you can adjust the brakes on the inside of the wheel. there are good for topping or mowing grass

I have a '66 MF135 that has always leaked-down as you described.I've even read that this is normal for this tractor. My tractor always has lifted properly but has always fallen ,like you described, when engine was turned off.I gave 5K for mine.If the tractor is in good mechanical condition & has been taken care of ,it's worth it.

Seems a little high to me I paid 3000. for mine with a rebuilt motor . I have no ps but I don't think that is worth 3 grand . I also agree about lift ,mine goes down fast with engine off but works great with motor running . I will say this it is one of the most effecent on fuel I have ever used. I have a 70 model with the perk. I cut grass with it and it uses less fuel that my riding mower did.

Sorry to say this but the 100 series Masseys are like that. Switch of the engine and down they go. The MF 135 was one of the finest tractors ever made, but they are notorious for developing 'mediocre' brakes, As you say they sound in need of a good servicing!

Hi, Like you, I'm no expert on hydraulics, but my father's 135 Diesel has bled off for as long as I can remember, especially with an implement attached. I believe that as long as the lift is strong going up and doesn't bleed off while the tractor is running you should be okay. You might want to check with Big Dean on this to be sure. Good Luck and God Bless, Tommy

The brakes are the easy part. Probably just need adjusting. The brakes have a star wheel to adjust the shoes just like most cars with drum brakes. I've had my 135 for 3 years now. It has always "wept" down, but is steady as a rock with the engine running. I paid about that price for mine. I too, read about the great deals people find, but having looked for quit awhile, that's probably a reasonable price for a good 135.
