After trying many of your suggestions,as well as my own tinkering,I've found that if I hold the spark plug wire a very small distance from the plug on all four cylinders,it runs like a dream.I can hang the plug wires on the ends of the plugs by the insulation at the end of the wires and achieve the above results.I've tried champion D21 and autolite 386 plugs. As I said earlier I've tried a new coil, points, etc.I've been told the plugs I've mentioned are correct for the Z134 continental motor. As ususal,I appreciate any help.

Thanks,
RB in Carolina

It turns out the problem was the spark plugs.I installed a new set of d21 Champions and she runs fine now with the wires properly connected.I had 2 sets of plugs apparently bad.(a set of autolite 386 and a set of Champion d21).I couldn't imagine the 386 set being defective as they were not very old,but I was wrong. Thanks to all who offered advice.

Hello RB sounds like your getting there. My to30 did the same thing,it had been overhauled and tuned.Even the manifold had been replaced. In tinkering excuse me (troubleshooting) mine done the same thing.I cured mine by setting the plug gap to .050".This tractor gets used every day to feed cattle with even when the temperature drops below 0 F.It is still 6 volt tractor.Good luck tractoring.

How are the wires are they green inside? Is your dist shaft maybe worn a bit. Is miss in engine steady or gets worse as engine speeds up or is it intermittent I would check the dist shaft and the cap and wires especially the old copper core wires can corrode inside casing from sitting just a shrt while. Assuming you have no water in fuel or dirt in sediment bowl where gas enters. Sorry for long post but lots to check and rule out

If you are certain that you have metal core plug wires, I would check the carb adjustment. Run tractor at full throttle and then turn the large adjusting screw in til the engine starts to try to stall then back out about 1/2 turn. Let engine idle, adjust smaller screw near the top by turning it in also til engine starts to run rough then back out til engine runs smooth. My 2 cents.

Adjust fuel mixture, and check for potential vaccum leaks. Clean plugs and check gap. Sounds like oil fouling, but check everything.
