I have an opportunity to obtain a Massey Harris model 44 for free; I just have to haul it off. I don't know exactly what year it is, but I suspect it is a 1948 due to some casting codes I found. I am guessing that it is a date code I was looking at. I found a place on the left frame rail where a tag was located at one time. Is there another place the serial number would have been stamped? The tractor is fairly complete, but has been sitting in the South Texas climate for a couple of decades. The fuel tank is holed, and the exhaust manifold has rusted off. Needless to say, the engine is stuck good. I believe there is no water in the oil pan since the oil level still measures full. The distributor cap was removed, and the inside of the distributor is all rusted up. The starter and generator are in place. There seems to be some sort of lift on the back, maybe a two-point of some type. Is there any value to this tractor? I am really considering hauling it home since the price is right, but I don't know anything about MH tractors or where to get parts. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. I currently deal only with IHC, but I can appreciate another red tractor.

Engine overhaul kits you can get from NAPA,also Tempco at some your farm implement dealerships. You also can get engine parts at Tractor Supply and Valu-built parts in DesMoines Iowa through the mail or online. There are a few salvage yards that deal in farm implements around the country like Charlie Burg's Salvage in Zelienople,Pennsylvania. Also check with your local Massey Ferguson Agco dealership,he will put you in the right direction. Its worth a couple hundred dollars in that condition, say $125-$200 Maybe less.
