WERE IN A PINCH. WERE TRYING TO BAIL BEFORE THE RAIN STARTS THURSDAY.WE TRIED TO START THE TRACTOR THIS MORNING AND THEIR WAS NO READING ON THE GLOW PLUG GAGE. WE HAVE HAD THIS TRACTOR ABOUT A YEAR SO IT'S NOT SOMETHING WE JUST BOUGHT.
THE GLOW SWITCH CHECKS OUT GOOD SO I CHECKED THE GLOW PLUG GAGE THE HOT WIRE HAS A TIGHT AND CLEAN CONTACT AND CHECKS OUT HOT BUT IT'S NOT COMING OUT HOT ON THE OTHER POLE LEADING TO THE GLOW PLUGS, SO I SENT MY HELP OVER TO AUTO ZONE WITH THE GUAGE (CLEAR AS DAYLIGHT GLOW PLUG GAGE)AND THEY SENT HIM BACK WITH A AMP METER AND TOLD HIM IT THE SAME THING AS A GLOW PLUG GUAGE. MAYBE I'M
WRONG BUT I QUESTIONED THE FACT WHY CALL ONE A GLOW PLUG GUAGE AND ONE AN AMP METER SO BEING AS DESPERATE AS WE WERE WE INSTALLED THE AMP METER AND IT BLEW THE AMP METER LIKE LIGHTING STRIKING
AN OAK TREE.ITS SUNDAY AND THE ONLY PLACE OPEN AROUND HERE IS AUTO ZONE. DO YOU THINK I COULD HOLD THE WIRE THAT GOES TO THE GLOW PLUGS ON THE HOT WIRE BY PASSING THE GUAGE FOR 30 SECONDS OR SO JUST TO GET ME THROUGH THE DAY?

Well if I am thinking what you have is a basically an amp guage but glow plugs pull alot of amps once they start getting hot they should back off on their draw but I have never actualkly seen one I would say a if you could find out what the max amps on your plugs are get a switch with that rating instalkl it click it on for a moment and try to fire it if it doesn't act like it will start hit it again just like the old 185 allis chalmers now if your glow plugs are shot that is an entirlye differnt story if they are totlly up to the threads they are shot and are pulling all the amps by grounding out. And by the way I have never had any luck dealing with Auto Zone.

Not emtirely with you as I have never seen a glow plug guage but I did manage to start a diesel landrover a few days ago by putting a jump lead direct from the battery to the glow plugs. Whether you can do that with your tractor I really don't know - depends how desperate to try it you are perhaps.
