I was brush-hogging today (MF 2135) when the speed just started swinging wildly. Just getting it back to the house was a project. I have a front loader and generator in the way, but when I turn the throttle lever or the gas pedal, I can see the throttle rod turning and the governor throttle lever arm rod moving, but not the control rod (I'm looking at a manual as I write this). The throttle lever spring appears to be fully connected, but I can't see the bottom of the governor lever. If I reach in there and move the control rod, it speeds up and slows down normally. Anybody have any ideas?

TOM

Tom: Loosen the bolt holding the generator and move it down, then make sure the THROTTLE CONTROL LEVER is making contact with the GOVENOR LEVER ASS`Y. It`s not just the spring that activates the GOVENOR LEVER. The manual you have should walk you through the adjustment of your system. On my tractor I also have a U-Bolt attaching the GOVENOR LEVER ARM ROD to the THROTTLE ROD that must be adjusted The bad news is if your Control Plunger is in contact with the Lever Ass`y and the Lever Spring is adjusted properly----I`ve been told the Govenor is probably in need of repair.

Waallll, I just had a good look at it, and it turns out that the clevis connecting the control rod to the carburator was disconnected. I actually FOUND the offending pin sitting on the oil filter and putting it back on turned out to be a HUGE chore. It connects behind the carburator, so you can't see it and can barely even REACH it. The clevis is so close to the carb that every time you try to slide the pin in there's no room to get it lined up. I had to actually drop the carb off the manifold just to access the link. And FORGET about the cotter-pin. Frankly, I don't see how it came detached in the first place. I haven't actually tried to USE it yet, but just starting it and testing it, it seems to be working. I suppose if it comes apart again, I'll just remove the whole carb just to get that link attached right.

I'm really not as grumpy as this entry sounds:)
