Homemade sprayer?

I've been looking at sprayers in the farm supply stores and they want around $300 for the fifty gallon ones that hook onto your three-point. They don't look too complicated. They're just a tank, some fittings, piping, valves, a regulator, a pump and a couple spray nozzles on a frame.

I have an unlimimited supply of plastic 55 gallon drums and the other parts probably wouldn't amount to more than a hundred dollars.

Has anybody ever tried something like this? Have any pointers? I was thinking of using three barrels as this would probably max out my three-point lift capacity (MF 2135 W/front loader). If I couldn't lift it full, I just wouldn't fill it up so far. I've seen 'em with the folding booms and with just one nozzle. I think one nozzle would be sufficient as they can spray out pretty far.

It'd be for weed control.

Whaddaya think?

You can make them like that. Run a suction hose through a screen, to a pump, out the pump to a pressure regulator, return goes back to the tank, and main line to the boom. You may want to plumb in a line back to the tank for mixing. If you are only thinking of running a few tips, you may be able to get by with one of those 12V pumps, just check the GPM at the pressure you want to spray.

If you are also wanting to spray fruit trees with it you may need a pto or seperate gas engine pump, the 12V may not have enough power to shoot high enough.

The main thing is to match your tip size to how many Gal/A and your speed. There are charts available from sources like t-jet. Or any chem. dealer.
