Sorry if this isn't the place for baler questions, but I am a novice with hay making and need some help. The baler is not letting out the same amount of string for each side of the bale. When you compare each sting, one string is about 3-4 inches longer than the other one. I checked the tension on both strings and it seems to be the same. The knots seem to be fine. Any ideas?

Ray

The 124 is agreat baler. The strings being different lengths is a function of how much hay is on each side of the baler chamber, the hay is what pulls the string. That is the same on all square balers. In a light windrow this seems to be more of a problem. The hay rake that pushes the hay into the baler chamber is adjustable there are three holes in the assembly. Sometimes it does not push the hay over far enough other times it doesn't extract far enough to pick up the hay, so it is trial and error. You also need to time the outside rake to the inside rakes with the chain on the backside. More hay stops seem to help as well and check for broken springs on the hay dogs.

I have a MF 12 baler and it pushes out "Banna" bales too. There is only 1 bolt to adjust both of the strings tension. I was thinking of re-drilling 2 holes and putting in 2 bolts, but surely it should work fine, any ideas?
The nylon part that couses the string tension is worn more on one side than the other if this helps.
Thanks

here are some ideas, may or may not apply to the MF124
-bale tension screws should be set for the same amount of exposed thread
-the packer on the MF224 can be set to place hay to one side or the other of the bale, see if this is possible with the MF124. If you change it, check the packer/plunger timing by rolling it through a cycle by hand
-broken or missing "hay dogs" or "hay checks" in the bale chamber
-look for "hay wedges" in the bale chamber, same number on both sides

is this baler new to you? or was it working ok and then started making banana bales? these kind of bales can make your hay crew quit

it'll be a good baler when you get all the kinks out. I can fax or email pics from my 224 manual if that will help.
