I see on some Massey Harris tractors that the hydraulic lines go into the side of the engine block.Do they go into the engine block so that heat from the engine helps warm up the oil?Do the lines just pass through the engine?Does the engine have oil ports(Like the water ports)casted into the block?Could anyone out there give me a little knowledge on this subject?I have talked to two different people who have had a Massey Harris tractor. They were also puzzled , and they owned the tractor. Scott-
In respose to your question, all that line is there for is to vent the hydraulic resevoir. Since the dipstick in the top is sealed to prevent spillage, the vent is necessary. Rather than have any fluid leak onto the tractor, the design allows it to go into the crankcase. This amount is so small that it really doesn't affect the engine oil. I just figured this out while restoring my model 30 RC. Hope this answered your question. If you have any more, feel free to e-mail me, I'll try to help.

Tom , Thanks for the education.Looking at different Massey Harrises , that always has puzzled me.Then when I ask a Massey Harris owner , and he dosn't know , I was more puzzled yet.Vent lines make sence.I would have never guessed they were only vent line. Scott
