Over the past 13 years I have had to replace the bendix housing three times because the cast housing breaks. It just did it again and as Murphys law dictates it happened right in the middle of haying. Does anybody know why they break?? I was told after the first one that the timing could be off causing some kick back and putting strain on the housing. I know the timing is right and it still keeps doing it about every three years. Any suggestions appreciated.

hey leon:
hope you find your problem, but tell me did the end of the starter housing go into the oil pan,and if it did,did you pull the pan to remove the metal. and if the metal is still in the pan is there a chance for the metal to cause a problem later. thanks jim

We had a 1960 MF 65 gas. In the 24 years we had it, it broke the starter casting 3 or 4 times. I don't know the reason. At least it is an easy part to change.
