Might be rare where you are but its certainly not rare in the UK. When first manufactured by Massey Harris Ferguson 35 was badged as a Ferguson FE35. It was fitted with the Standard 23c diesel engine and painted gold with grey tinwork (in UK anyway) It was sold like that for just over a year 1956 - 1957 then was rebadged as the MF35 and painted red/grey. My understanding is that some MF35s still had the 23c engine for a time before they eventually all were fitted with the Perkins 3.152 diesel engine as standard. The SDM serial is a code for standard width, dual clutch deluxe model (and possibly something else I can't recall.) SDM was the normal designation.

9 1/2 out of 10 David.
Massey Ferguson bought Perkins in 1959 and from then installed Perkins engines.
S = standard width
D = Diesel engine
M = Dual clutch
