Hydraulic Leak Down on FE 35

I recently changed the fluids on my FE 35 and I have noticed a big difference (increase) in the 3PH leak down. When I bought this tractor last December I ran it until it was quite warm then shut it off. The 3 PH held up a 6.5 foot snowblower for about 10 -15 minutes before slowly leaking down even though the hydraulic fluid was not topped up. The temperature on that day was about +5C (+44F), it was sunny and we were out of the breeze.

Last weekend, with brand new CO-OP Trans Hydraulic fluid filled to proper level, the 3PH will leak down in about 30 seconds with a light 5 foot cultivator on it. As well, with a 5 foot rotary mower the mower seems to sag a little while operating and I constantly had to keep raising it an inch or two with the RPM showinng 540.

What should I look at first, second, third ..... hopefully in order of easiest and least expensive to .....

Thanks for any help

Bob

Trans Hydraulic oil is too thin. 80-90W gear oil or a 30W engine oil is what you need.

The MF35 used 80/90W rearend lube for the 3pt and rearend in the older tractors. If you used the newer lube(MF1129A) for the MF135 which is alot thinner, it will come down alot faster. In the winter the older 3pts would take alittle while to warm up before they worked good.

I am not sure what weight oil you used, but the Massey M1103 (I think that is the correct number) mineral oil is very thick and will help an old hydro pump that leaks down. I noticed that my lift was much slower with the mineral oil on my MF50. The Massey oil is I think 80/90 wt.

m1103 is the correct fluid. don't use anything else. regular 90w gear oil will ruin the hyd. pump.

Massey hydraulic pumps will damn near pump gravel ( not literally folks...dont try it out !!!)
So I find it hard to swallow being told that 90w gear oil will ruin the pump. Any specifics behind this peculiar claim? I've run Castrol Agri MP plus multi-grade for near 10 years in both MF35, MF135 & Dextas & never had a problem. Keep the oils free of moisture & the filters clear & Bob's your uncle.
