Well we finally gave up after exhaustive tries to fix the Pony and took her to a repair place. The problem we have is she starts strong and then about 1 minute later just dies. You can start her right back up again, but she won't stay running. We have replaced practically every part except for the internal governor and the actual carberator body. Here is the point, the repair place checked everything we did and they "think" that it is the carb body. Telling us it may be warped. My thoughts here are where do I get a carb body and is that really the problem. Anybody got any ideas.....

WOW....your's must be the brother to mine. I have a recently purchased 53 Pony that does the same thing. I have not looked deep into the problem as of yet, but the story I have been getting is dirt in the carb also.....let's hope so! Good luck.

Hi Pat,
I had a cub with a warped top (visible without gasket) from someone banging on top and overtightening screws. Was given a tip and and fixed warped top by shimming up with small finish washers(3 or 4) between top and bottom of carb halves at each screw. Then used pressure at warped spot to bend even with rest of carb section. go slow and easy....but it worked for me. Good Luck, Chris Todd

Me again, Have you tried leaving the fuel cap off also? Not familiar with ponys but may not be venting properly. Chris Todd

Hi Pat
The same thing was going on with my pony turned out to be the float wings were bent as to rub on the side of the bowl which wouldn't let the float drop far enough to open. Hope this helps John

my MH50 did this last year, caused by the fuel filter in the sediment bowl being 90% plugged. sufficient fuel could trickle into the carb bowl to allow it to start but not enough to keep it running. if you disconnect the fuel line entering the carb you should get a solid stream of fuel. seems obvious I know but maybe worth a try. tractor carbs are incredibly simple devices...why would it decide to warp after all these years???

I had the same problem with my Pony. I replaced the sediment bowl & screen and ran a pipe cleaner through the fuel lines soaked in carb cleaner. That helped but didn't fix it completely. Each time it quit after that I pulled the carb off & cleaned it out. Now it runs like a top. A little dry gas in the fuel is a good solvent too. I know it sounds too simple & good to be true but for me it worked. That little carb is very sensitive to any contamination. Good luck.

If you get things running and don't have an inline fuel filter after the sedement bowl, cut one in. It will save lots of trouble as the sedement bowl is somewhat crude technology.

Are you sure you're not pulling a vacuum on the gas tank? Have you tried running it without the gas cap on the tank?

Yep, we tried without cap still did the same thing. We definately feel it's some kind of air/fuel drama going on.
