I have a tractor with a gas tank that has been in a shed for 20+ years. How do I get the bad gas residue out with out taking the tank off? There must be somthing to use because taking the tank off may be a bigger project than getting it running. Thanks

If you haven't already, drain all the gas you can out of the tank, and remove the fuel line outlet. I expect theres rust/gum/varnish/dirt all over the bottom of the tank. Use a power pressure washer ( a 5 - 8 hp gas washer is best, the electric ones are a bit underpowered) Use the wand down the fuel filler hole and spray off all the debris. Try and direct the spray to as much of the inside as you can and take your time. The tank will fill with water of course and overflow through the filler, (Hopefully) carrying out all the debris with it. When the water runs clear let the tank drain completely. Repeat the wash on the drained tank a couple of more times.

If there is any remaining residue that just won't power wash off, plug the fuel outlet and pour in some carburetor cleaner and cover the filler hole Let it soak a day or so and then drain.

If there is still a lot of rust in the tank, its time to remove it and take it to a pro to be boiled out.

Good luck.
