The pto shaft on my MF 85 will hot stop turning,The tractor has a single stage clutch, what could be the problem? Also would like to know what is the purpose of the ground drive position of the pto? when this is engaged even with the transmission in neutral the tractor will move, this can't be right is it?

If you have a ground drive PTO position, than you have a 2 stage clutch. The ground drive PTO is used for some planters or something that needs a PTO in proportion to the distance of ground travel. The ground speed pto is 1 revolution of pto for 20" of ground travel.

Lee, Didn't realize the distance was 20". I was told not to use the ground position with a brush hog because it makes the tractor hard to stop. I suspect that is why D. Miller's tractor continues to move with the clutch in. C. T.

The ground PTO is driven off of a gear on the pinion shaft just in front of the pinion bearings. So if the tractor is moving the PTO is turning. Does made it nice for unplugging some equipment, but you have to be very careful.
