In search of MF35 owners manual

I inherited my father's MF35. Its a diesel deluxe with the Perkins diesel. There is no manual, and I don't expect my father did any service to the tractor in eons. I changed the engine oil and filter and the engine runs fine, but the 3pt doesn't have the oomph to lift the mower. I'd like to locate an owners manual so I know how to service the lift/tranny. Hopefully my problem is just stale oil and/or a clogged screen or filter. Rummaging on E-bay, there seem to be several variations of MF35 owners manuals. I guess this tractor was made for a number of years in a variety of configurations (different engines, non-deluxe models, etc.). That exactly is the title of the owners manual that covers the MF35 Diesel Deluxe with a Perkins?

In the mean time while searching for the correct manual, is there something on-line that will give me the nickel version of how to drain and service the tranny?

Understand that you might want manuals anyway but while your waiting, if you unbolt cover on left that PTO lever is on you will have access to the hydraulic filter which (if it has one) sticks up from pump. If its clogged, hydraulics tend to be slow but to still have full lift strength. If hydraulics are weak I'd suspect a leak somewhere in the internal system or just pump wear. If its a leak you can usually detect where it's coming from by running the thing with hydraulics in lift position with cover off. (without putting fingers or anything else inside.) If its leak free you should see no major turbulence or air bubbles in oil apart from what's caused by revolving shaft and pump movement. Should also be or major drips or oil flow from above anywhere. Turbulence at back of pump may be leaking relief valve which can be taken out and freed or replaced. Lack of leaks suggests pump wear.

Evan...YOu might also consider the video on hydraulic system repair under "Videos" under the MARKETPLACE heading at the left. Under "Miscellaneous Repairs," the last listing at the bottom is "Massey-Ferguson Hydraulic Repair." The description is...

Features the MF 35 and pertains to these tractors as well - MF 50, 202 and 204, Ferguson 40 and TO35. If your tractor's hydraulics shake, operate slowly or perhaps don't work at all, this video will show you how to make the necessary repairs or adjustments or rebuild the hydraulic pump. - Part No. JDV13.

Cost is $24. I bought it, but haven't looked at it yet. I'm guessing it will be well worth the cost when I find time to overhaul my MF35 hydraulics that are slow.

The other source of info that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned is Big Dean's CD. He's a retired MF mechanic, and the recognized final authority around this forum. He's collected a bunch of stuff on MF tractors and burned several CDs covering variuos models including the 35. He sells it for $20. His site is at the link below. He has tips there as well, but you might want to check out the information about the CD.

Buy 3 real MF manuals from dealer is your best bet. Operators Manual, Repair Manual, Parts Manual. You will need all 3 to care for your tractor. Dealer will need serial number of tractor. By having the real MF manuals, my dealer helps me in the store and on the phone. I can easily tell him the exact page I am looking at and ask him about detailed part numbers. The Parts Manual will have the best exploded views for any reassembly. Good luck with your tractor.

How much do those manuals from the dealer cost? I have a TO-35 with the original owner's manual but only a few photocopied pages from the service manual and no parts book.

Hal...I bought my photocopied MF35 owner's manual from the Marketplace, and was going to buy other manuals there, but I happened to be at the Agco dealer (they own/handle MF) and asked about them. Turned out they cost less there than online. Posted here about that and the replies seemed pretty consistent that manuals will often cost less from the dealer.

Here's the link to my post back in December with prices and then you can follow the discussion there.

Evan;
Look at the menu bar to the left- at the top you'll see 'Tractor Manuals' under 'Marketplace'.
It's a long listing so make sure you move the pages forward when searching.
Good luck and welcome to the board!
Roger

So, in the marketplace list, I see "MF 35 Dsl Operators Manual, 64 Pages (Part No: (MH-O-MF35DSL))." I understand the MF35 had two diesel engine options, does this manual cover both or at least the Perkins variant?
