While out warming up the oil in the truck this morning so I could change it (another way of saying "checking out yard sales"), I ran across a MF50 with a for sale sign on it. The old boy claims he bought it new in '79. I think his memory is shot. I've researched the s/n SGM519020 and found it to be a '58. Found a couple of date codes to support that: D.16.8 on the block and C198 on the left axle trumpet. He has brand new rims and tires on the rear and a new clutch (dual). He's asking $4,000. Paint is original and very faded. I prefer that to a quickie paint job to cover cracks and leaks. There is some seepage of oil around the engine, but not bad. The diff is dry. Overall a pretty sound machine, but I still think his price is about double what it should be. Comments?

Also, the intended use for this would be to install a front loader. Any recommendations for a loader for this machine? In looking at the serial numbers, it doesn't appear the 50 was produced in prodigious numbers. Is it particularly collectible or did they not make many because no one wanted it?

Hey Jim, I always see you on the other board... Did you get the Massey??? That seems a little high... Not out of the norm though,,, I've seen them go for more too. For thirty nine hundered, I picked up a very clean 1958 "65" with a real nice loader... front pump, real heavy dudy... Plenty of parts for these old Masseys, and pretty easy to work on too. Good Luck!!!

I decided to pass on the MF50. It was still there last time I drove by (couple of days ago).

I just sold a nice 65 diesel with a massey loader
for $4000,had it advertised for a year before I
sold it.The man who bought it doesn't want the
loader,he was asking $800 for it.I've got a massey
50 with 850 original hours I bought from an old man for $3500.I don't have any use for it,I just
couldn't resist.

I gave 3K for a 62 MF50 diesel with a ratty brush cutter. If it runs and appears not to need much in the way of fixing-up, then IMHO 4K is on the high side - otherwise to much. The MF50 is a great tractor however!
