My Massey with a continental Z134 engine lost power while I was trying to keep up with the weeds. After some head scratching and reading I started checking the govenor linkage. I seem to be missing the "compensating spring link". Could this be causing my LOSS of power problem when the tractor is under load? I`ve looked locally and haven`t found this part yet. Is there a good outlet for new or use Massey Ferguson parts online? Thanks .

If this came on all of a sudden I would check the air cleaner, exhaust restriction and fuel flow. Will it rev to top RPM in neutral ?

Don & kenrat
Thanks for the hint! It was the Carb, rebuild kit was available at NAPA. After cleaning and installing the carb kit it now runs great. Thanks again Jack

No it doesn`t rev higher than 1830 rpm in nuetral and it does die alot below 600 rpm. A friend I work with told me today I should check the carb. I`ll check the air cleaner tonight. I did service the air cleaner this early spring, but have never touched the carb. Hopefully there will be a kit for it. Thanks for the ideas! kenrat Jack

The compensating spring will cause the throttle lever not to stay were you set it but other than the throttle moving back to a slower position for the engine RPMs it will not have any effect on the power of the engine. All of the Massey Ferguson tractor that use the Z134 engines did not have a compensator spring used on them. I cannot remember which tractor models did or did not use it. Hope this help some.

Massey Ferguson 204, Continental Z134 engine. It starts easy as always, doesn`t have a miss, compression on all 4 cyclinders around 110. Tractor runs good on level Ground but if mowing heavy brome or going up and over a regular terrace the motor almost bogs down to a stop. The govenor mechanism seems to react properly according to the book, but I can`t adjust it without that pesky compensatin spring link, according to the book. Could timing be a problem even though it starts easily. Thanks for any help Don I Need all I can get
