I am having a Size crisis for my 1969 MF40 (Industrial 135), is it me or the tractor. I purchased it as an Orchard model (short tractor syndrome) w/ 18.4-16.1 R1 Big fat tires on back that have about 10-20% left and 7.5-10" 10 plys on the front (I did put a stack on the exhaust to make it feel taller). I also have a model 32 loader on the tractor. My local guru tells me to use 14.9-24 R1 6ply and 9.5L-15 8 ply on the front, both these tires have serious load capability (3000#/2000#). For what I use this for, light loading, manure, sawdust, a little dirt and gravel, harrowing, brush hog, blading, the Orchard set up is OK, but I get a lot of wheel spin when doing the heavier work like harrowing with my Spanish harrow down about 6-7 inches. I thought I would like to keep the orchard set up with new fat tires, but the prices are too high for me.(Well maybey I do want it to look like all the other tractors in the county...we have no orchards here..just cows and berries) Now for the questions, I came across a nice set of Firestone (used 70% left)R1 12.4-28 4plys (2000# rating) filled with calcium on wheels that I can make fit, and I can get either 9.5L-15 8ply or 7.50-16 8ply(1700-1800#'s) that should keep me even front to back. For the type of loading and work I am doing is this set up and ply rating acceptable? I am a little concerned the 9.5's on 8" wide wheels will hit the spindles or be very very close. The 28" wheels are very adjustable as far as offset, how do I get the right setup, is there a rule of thumb in relation of width on front to back tires. I also have the option of trading in the 28's (won't make my wife happy) and getting the 14.9-24's if this is a better choice. Input on Ply ratings, front to rear offset, tire size for this tractor, front and rear tire selection or any other issues related is APPRECIATED. Bring it on...and have a great MF day!!
