Recently purchased MF 590 4-wheel drive(similar to 290) has perkins 4.248 diesel. after a few hours of running it motor raced a bit then shut down. checked all fulids, fuel, and changed fillters everthing looked good. motor would not turn over but if i pulled the fuel shut of it would turn over then by pushing fuel shut off in while it was turning over it would start but then shut down after a few minuts it then stoped turning over at all checked battery and all connections pulled the starter and had it checked out it was good. pulled injectors and was able to turn motor over with pry bar on the flywheel but it was very dificult. pulled oil pan everything looked good no siezed connecting rod bearings. not sure where to look next. Could the injector pump cause this? Could the hyrdrolic pump be siezed? I drained the fluid and it looks fine no metal. Tranismision seems fine it shifts and goes into nutral. How about clutches. I'm just not how to isolate my problem without spliting the tractor. I thought about trying to pull start it but affaid of making matters worse. Anybody got any ideas they will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It does sound a bit like the injector pump is mis behaving, but why it should jam the engine, i have no idea. I would get it serviced at a diesel injection specialist, if nothing wrong then it wont be expensive. remove the radiator cap and turn the engine over if possible, preferably running and check for bubbling in the water. this would be a blown head gasket and could lead to water lock if water is leaking into cylinders. A poor battery or a weak starter motor can often condemn a good engine. In one tractor i used the stop cable wore through some cable rubbing on it resulting in a weak current to the Starter.
