I just got back from a week in sunny, scenic southern Utah. I was there for a conference, but my afternoons were free. Since I don't golf, I went prowling. The spousal unit and I went in search of an old ghost town that we'd heard of. We finally found it well off the beaten track. Not much left there to see, but next to the 3 remaining buildings was this old Massey Harris tractor sinking into the ground.

I don't know much about these, but my casual (an amateur) glance seemed to tell me that it had a diesel engine. I didnt' have anything to write with but the ID plate had "44D1R" as best I can recall. It also had another number that ended with a "P" with about 5 digits in front of it. The hood and fuel tank are lying on the ground next to the tractor in the bottom photo. I have no idea if it's available or even who you would talk to. If anyone is seriously interested you can email me and I'll give you some directions on how to find it and a possible lead as to ownership. This was about 5-10 miles from the entrance to Zion National Park.

Seen an absolute ton of MH44's up in these parts but only standards, never seen one with the adjustable front end. They're nice looking tractors and it's a shame that somebody didn't get hold of this one years ago.

Jim, I photographed that same tractor about 10 or 11 years ago with the hopes of someday finding the owner.I actually did a mapquest with directions that continue to hang on my shop wall.I think that it is far beyond my capabilities to restore.I hope that someone can find the owner and save another Massey and will enjoy Zion National Park as much as I did.

Yes, another sad end for a 44D Special, High-Arch.
A strong beast lugging tractor, left to corrode.
Imagine the internals of that engine after two
decades of exposure. We need national preservation
for Massey-Harris; this is a crime. Probably 100
hrs of labor would salvage half of it, haul cost,
custom machine shop work, pricey committment. MF
has backslid since May, 1957, when they announced
pulling the plug on the MH division, to focus on
Harry's toys and profit. Disastrous management.

Hi guy's
I have a question. I found a old Massey setting in a fence row with rear spoke wheels. Did Massey
come out with these or were they something someone
made? Thanks.

Have a friend, a Massey colector and he has a 333 Standard on full factory steel

Massey-Harris had spoke wheels, about '38-'39 era.
The early 101's were common, some had the cast
disc center wheel. There was a pieced together
44 on e bay a month or two ago, with spoke steel
wheels, rubber lugs bolted to the steel. Buyers
must have refused to pay upon pick-up, as it sold
about 3 times.

I know a guy that has a 101 Super with rear spoked rims (with rubber). I've always wondered if they are original MH wheels. These spokes are cast iron setups and are square or rectangular in shape. Are yours of that type? The cast hub fits right on perfectly on the Massey axel.

Hi again
Alberta Mike these are just like you said, and
fit right on the axle. They look like John Deere's.I am not sure of the size of the tractor,
but about the size of a 44. It's too bad they can't be put inside before they are rusted away.
I don't know if the man would just sell the wheel's or not. The tractor is in bad condition.
Thanks for the information and your time.
