I am still trying to identify the year of my 40 Industrial. The serial number plate on the dash is missing, but the other serial numbers are :

Engine : AD3-152 Perkins, 273558 D
Loader : MF32, 1687 - 004675

Any ideas on the year of manufacture?

I have just completed an engine rebuild without removing the loader or engine - new rings/sleeves/bearings. Solved the "blow-by" problem, starts easier, doesn't smoke any more, and purrs along like it should. If anyone wants any tips on this, shoot me an e-mail.

Hi there...I also have an MF40, just got it a couple of weeks ago. Great tractor so far. My 32 loader is 1687000948...that would lead me to believe yours is a about 3500 some odd units newer than mine. According to sources I have found my tractor and most likely the loader also is a late 1969. My tractor S/N is still intact. Good Luck and enjoy!!

Thanks for the Perkins link - I had seen something similar before, but it is all for post-1974 engines. I am thinking mine is more in the 1970 to 1972 range, because the engine serial number doesn't tie up to ones listed.

Any other ideas?

I wish there was a chart for pre '74 engines. My manual and a lot of aftermarket parts lists reference serial numbers ending in "D" or "DSL".

Finally, I've cracked the code...

The Perkins Technical Help Desk identified my engine from the serial number, determining that it was built in June 1971, and shipped to MF - Detroit.
