I have a stupid multipower question

My 285 leaks BAD even though I keep it in the low range. One of neighbors told me it is possible that the fluid I am using is partially to blame (I've been using the "universal" crap from TSC) I realize that it is more than likely the rings or seals or whatever they are, but is it possible that my leaks might have worsened by using cheap fluid?

Thanks!

daveh: You might try some oil treatment like STP I got some cheap stuff at a Family Dollar store that has helped my car's oil burning. I don't think it will hurt anything' but would be better to mix with trans. fld. before adding.

The multi-power valve is located in the bell house, if the hydraulic line came loose or a 'O' ring is worn on the valve it will leak out the bottom of the bell house at one of the cotter pins that are in weep holes. You'll have to split the tractor in order to fix any of these. I used TSC's hydraulic oil and have no problem in my MF165. I just overhauled my multi-power last winter. Replaced all the disc's, plates, seals and sealing rings in the multi-power.

not worsend but the fuild might be to thin. like thirty wieght car oil verses 30 wieght tractor oil, the car oil will not set the rings and will not take the abuse of normal use in a tractor. there for it will pass by the rings more and might seep out a bad seal. but it will not leak heavy. so you might be able to get by, by changeing the oil but i don't think so
