I BROUGHT ONE FOR $175, CAME OFF MH 44 IS WHAT I HAVE RIGHT NOW , THEY WORK PRETTY GOOD AS NEWER MODELS DOES..BUT THE PROBLEM WITH WELDING THREADS ALL AROUND THE LIFTING ARMS AND BRACKETS THAT HOLDS IT TOGETHER BROKE OFF , I HAD TO REWELD ALL OF THEM, TAKING OLD WELDING SEAMS OFF AND REWELD IT AGAIN, THEY DONT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO HOLD IT , I HAVE 6 FT BLADE AND 5 FT BRUSH HOG AND IM RUNNING ABIT ROUGH ON THEM AND BROKE IT 3 TIMES SO RIGHT NOW IT WORKS JUST FINE AFTER I REWELD ALL THAT WELD SEAMS... BUT THEY WORK REAL GOOD AND IM HAPPY WITH IT... YOU MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM FINDING A TOP LIKE FOR 3 POINT HITCH.. I HAVE CATALOG THAT SHOWS THE TOP LINK HAS TO BE LIKE OVAL SO THE PTO SHAFT CAN GO STRAIGHT THROUGH... YOU LL HAVE TO MAKE ONE ON YOUR OWN WITH ABOUT 2 INCHES SOLID STEEL ROD.. I COULDNT FIND IT EITHER SO I HAD TO MAKE ONE ON MY OWN... SO GOOD LUCK FINDING ONE... THEY ARE ABIT HARD TO FIND.. EVEN IM TRYING TO FIND ONE TOO FOR MY ANOTHER MH 44 TOO...

Yes it is usable with todays three point equipment, I do not have a picture of the setup, but it does work really well.

"Hitch-All" is the ticket, debut in 1954, on the 44 Special. This Cat.II three point is strong,
braced, built. Earlier attempts on 44's,30's were
not up to pulling a 3 bottom plow. Lower anchor
pins, on the lift arms snapped off, no fun. A back blade, light snow removal more realistic.
The draft was not accurate until the 333/444's.
For work, not authentic restoration, lower lift
arms for FORD 4600, are Cat.II, slightly longer,
but functional. Avoid FORD vertical link, way too
long. MF 175, & machine shop a possible.Good luck.

So "Off the Land", are you saying that the early 44's draft arms on the M-H 3-point, ("plow hitch") can be replaced with Ford 4600 draft arms for a stronger overall hitching arrangement? I have noticed that the 3-point hitch on my 1950 M-H 44 has been HEAVILY welded AND RE-INFORCED in several places due to breakage. The rockshaft itself has been broken right where the brackets which connect it to the vertical pieces go. Has also been gussetted with extra steel plate. Any information to increase the strength of this hitch would be appreciated. Thank you! -Randy R.

Randy, If the lift shaft on your 44 is above the PTO, it
is 'Hitch-All', if below:earlier attempt. Going
to Cat.II lift arms will not solve the pre-'Hitch-
All' weaknesses. The lower anchor studs on early
3 point were attached to the draw bar brackets with two bolts. The Hitch-All Cat.II studs were part of the bracket, factory welded-in studs, with
clevis bracing forward(3/8" thick). Photo above
is 444, but somewhat similar. Post back,it's free.

Hi again "Off"! This 44 does have the PTO shaft above the lift shaft. And as you say, the bolts upon which the draft arms pivot look as if they also have been welded to the arms which bolt to the side of the transmission/drivetrain case. I am noticing actually that a LOT of welding has been done on this hitch. No wonder M-H re-engineered the strength of this hitch for the 444. Does the 44 Special have any better setup than what my early 44 has? And do you have any suggestions as far as strengthening what I do have in order to avoid future breakage? I am now wondering whether I should/should not even use a 3-bottom plow. Perhaps I should only attempt a 2 bottom with 14" moldboards. What do you think, given the repairs/condition of my current hitch?
Thanks for the great information!! -Randy in Oregon.

Randy, As I stated, the Hitch-All, on the 44 Special, is the Cat.II set-up, as is the 3 point that
followed, on the 444(Cat.II). The lower anchor
studs on the Special & Triple, are the same. A
Special Hitch-All will handle a 3 bottom plow.
The earlier style, (Pre-Hitch-All), is more of a modified cultivator lift, than plow hitch. It was
suited for a 30. not a 44. Kind of impossible to
address the weaknesses. You would need side-by-side parts from a Special, to copy strengths.

The 444/333 lift arms, lower anchors, were identical to the Special, but almost everything
else was new or modified. The lift shaft had been lowered about 4", as the PTO was 10" lower. The
top link was about perfect. The Triple 4 would
pull 4-14" 3 point plows, but light on the nose.
This 3 point only works on row crop models, space
conflicts on 'Standards'. Never saw a 555 with this set-up, doubt it would fit correctly. Good
luck.
