Though I don't have a Massey Harris tractor , I still enjoy looking at them , along with many other old tractors. The one thing that puzzles me about some of the Massey Harris tractors is:The hydraulic lines look like they run into the engine block. What is the reason for this?I would be surprised if the engine and the hydraulics share the same oil.Or do the hydraulic lines travel through the engine block to warm up the oil for the hydraulics?Or does the engine have oil ports casted into the block for the hydraulics?I'm really interested in the answers to these questions. No the hyd. and engine oil are not shared. The steel lines run to the hyd. pump that is mounted solidly to the engine, at least on the 33&44 modeles.

Hi again Mark , I had read your reply. Now I know the engine and hydraulics don"t share the same oil.I didn't think they did , but I did not know for a fact.I seen steel lines connecting to the hydraulic pump. What about the other end of the steel line. The end which goes into the block. That is what I'm puzzled about. Why do the lines plug into the block?Does the block have oil ports in it for warming up the oil for the hydraulics?Or do the steel lines just pass through the block , or what?Is this for heating up the oil for the hydraulics , or why do they plug into the engine block.Looking forward to reading your reply..... ..Scott
