I recently purchased a '55 TO-35 Deluxe. The bolt/nut that secures the left, front spindle steering arm to the spindle extends very close to the tire. In fact, if the nut loosens the bolt will rub the tire's inside sidewall. The right side spindle is fine. I can't see any damage but I did note that someone painted "TO-30" on the left radius rod suggesting that it is not an original part. A simple fix (band-aid) is keep the nut tightened; however, I'm wondering if a TO-30 radius rod will fit a TO-35? By the way, no problems steering the tractor. Thoughts?

JEH;
My TO-35 has the same condition on both sides. When I purchased the tractor the tires has actually worn the nuts down, nearly eliminating a couple of flats on the nuts. I flipped the tires/rims inside out- couldn't see any other way to avoid the conflict. Now, my front wheels track a bit wider and I don't really notice any difference in the steering.
Let me know if you find another solution.
Have fun with your new tractor!

Roger,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. I forgive a great deal with "the ole gal" afterall, she's older than I am. Reversing the wheels offers a good advantage since it widens the track, I mow one hill that prompts me to pray before, during, and after. Wider track is better. Again, thank you.

Jim

Jim;
The comment you made about a hill you mow that requires prayer raises a flag. There are numerous posts regarding roll-overs and the likely result(s). Do a search of the archives on this and other tractor boards to get an idea of the perils you tempt. Search also for ROPS for solutions.
Take care,
Roger
