I am new to tractors and have a MF65 with the serial numbers "UNM 691054" I know it was manufactured between 1962 and 1963 by the serial number, but can anyone tell me what the UNM stands for? it also has a 4 cylinder diesel engine any ideas on the make and horsepower? it is yellow like an industrial with a "Midwestern Industries For Massey Harris Ferguson" loader.
thanks for any help
mike

Hi Mike
from what i can gather, UNM before the serial number stands for
U Utility model
N diesel engine( not direct injection)
M dual clutch
If it was an industrial model it would have a J in place of the U.

Your tractor is a late '62 according to my book. The diesel's got a 203.5 cu. in. Perkins engine. The prefix on your serial number befuddles me, unless it's something denoting it as being a utility industrial tractor. Hope this helps.

If it is a MK11 MF65 you have with the Perkins AD 203 engine it will have fuel injection and should have serial no UNDM, the D after the N denoting direct injection. The easiest way to tell between Mk1 and Mk11 is the size of the fuel tank. The Mk1 has small er square tank with space for two batteries ( it was designed for 2x 6v batteries) whereas the Mk11 has a larger fuel tank and space for only one battery (12v)
Could it be an earlier Massey Harris ?

The industrial 65's were 65R and 65S in UK. Mine is a 65S which has a shuttle transmission. That means that there is a rocking accelerator pedal which comnes as direction select. Press one side for forward and the other side for reverse. I think (but not sure) that the 65R has normal transmission.
