I finally got it done except for paint. Put a 250 6 cyl. and 4 speed tranny from a 71 pickup in a leftover 44 frame. Like all of my projects it had to be something I could use, not just play with. The toughest part was getting a governor setup to work. I finally went with a add-on cruise control, the type with the magnets for speed sensing. Put the magnets on the damper pulley and after some adjustments it works great. That 44 can pull a 4-14 plow at 7 mph and not even work up a sweat. Having a great time with it. Just had to share the governor/cruise control idea.

Good job! I know how proud you must be. I put a 289 Ford V-8 in a 1948 International KB2 pickup and kept everything else just as factory(for you purests- the engine was shot). It sounded real sweet and turned a lot of heads. My biggest problem was it kept tearing out the motor mounts when I gassed on it. After I fixed that weakness, it was "fun time in town."

Thanks for taking an original MH 44 and messing it up. And we wonder why prices are always on the rise...

I expected comments like yours and hesitated even posting this. However, I look at it as making use of some more old iron and possibly bringing a smile to those of us who enjoy a challenge. Like stated in a post above, this Massey frame was the remnant of my gathering parts to save a 44RC and a 44STD which I restored several years ago. So I feel I've somewhat saved a piece of old iron. Appologies accepted.

The ones that matter don't mind and the ones that mind don't matter. Mine could be made back to its original condition in a few hours WITH an engine available. There wasn't pone 20 years ago and I still don't have one available. I do have a forklift I have used for all of those years.

I built a forklift with a slant six and automatic 20 years ago. Still use it. with the steering set=up, etc, they lend themselves well to these swaps.

COOL! I HAVE SEEN A PHOTOGRAPH WITH CHEVY 350 ON MH 44 TOO... HEY DID YOU PUT AUTO TRANSMISSION OR STICK TRANSMISSION? WHEN YOU START TO SHIFTING ON THE TRACTOR, WHAT GEAR DO YOU MOSTLY USE ? I WAS WONDERING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THAT MOTOR WAS RUNNING LIKE 3000 RPM IN 5TH GEAR . THAT THING WOULD FLY? HA

I used a manual 4 speed because that was the shortest thing I could find and about all the room I had since the 6 cyl. is longer than a V8. I like the 6 cyl. over the V8 because it looks much more original. Using a GPS for speed calculations I find that I can go anywhere from 1096 feet per hour in low gear at an idle up to 42 mph at 4500 RPM in high gears. I chickened out beyond that speed. I use 3rd gear in the truck transmission at 3400 rpm for all standard speeds in the tractor including the 540 pto. In 4th gear in the truck tranny at the rated tractor rpm of 1350 which gives me normal speeds I just don't have much power. If I rev the engine up much over 2000 rpm with the truck tranny in 4th, I get quite a bit of noise from the tractor input shaft etc. even though I put in new bearings. Hope to have pictures available in a couple of weeks.

I had to remove a bit of the cast frame on each side for the chevy bell housing to fit in. Other than that it was much simpler than I had thought it would be.
