I was given a new one wire alternator but it came with no wiring instructions. I wantint to install it on a MF 135 that now has a three wire alternator which is not working. I notice on the wiring of alternator now, one wire goes to ampmeter then to solenoid on starter then another wire goes to switch.
All help appreciated.

When I am rewiring a tractor, I always go to a new ignition switch with Off-on, accessory position. Start position is optional. I run the wire from the battery to the ammeter and to the Batt position on the switch. The wire to coil goes to the ign position. The alternator wire goes to the accessory position. This is due to the propensit of diodes to slightly leak over time. Many times an alternator will charge, but, will leak down over two days. This takes care of that. Also, mice like the taste of vinyl coated wires. When they chew through the right place, the wire shorts out and sometimes fires start. This diagram cuts the odds. I like to hook the light switch up to the accessory position also, again to cut the odds of leaving the lights on. Personally, I prefer to use a voltmeter rather than an ammeter. It tells much more and only has to be hooked in Parrallel. rather in series.

Use the wire to the ampmeter, the old regulator and other wires can be discarded.
