I have a 1951 Massey Harris Pony without a water pump. I realize it was made this way,but it tends to run hot on 90+degree days.I would like to add a water pump. Is this feasible?

I don't think it needs a waterpump. Mine never overheats in our 95 degree summers in south Louisiana. Check your radiator.

Radiator is two years old. Engine was overhauled (vat cleaned)at the same time. We have owned the tractor since 1951. It has a temp gauge added years ago. It runs 190 to 200 on hot days. It has done this all it's life. Thanks again for the suggestions, Lynn

Hi, I don't know if this is feasible or not, but could you overdrive the fan, (put on a different pulley to make it turn faster) so it would cool better? I do not know why this would work.

Worth a shot!

Good Luck!

Remember, glycol doesn't transfer heat as well as water. I think you might want to thin your cooling mixture during the summer.

Be sure on your thermosyphon type cooling system that you have that you keep the water level above the top of the radiator cores or it will overheat. If you are and it still overheats then you have a restriction in the water flow such as a clogged radiator. Might also look for collapsed hoses-loose fan belt etc.

I don't think you would be able to do such a thing. There has got to be a reason why it is over heating. Do you have a good 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze? What kind of shape is your radiator in? Might want to flush every thing out real good to make sure all the passages are open. Hope this helps and good luck to you!!!
