I want to redo the emblems on my TO35. There is one on each side of the hood and on the front. They are potmetal construction with raised lettering with a green background. The paint is faded and needs to be redone. I'm thinking of chemically stripping them and then repainting them. Then I would sand the paint off of the raised letters by sanding them against sometning flat like a plate of glass. Will this work or is there a better way. Thanks

I've had pretty good luck with repainting the emblems by first taking a Q-tip and covering the tops of the areas you wish to keep chrome with a little vaseline. Spray on the paint and before the paint is totally dry, you can wipe off those areas either with a clean q-tip or with a clean cloth as described in Earl's suggestion.Even an Xacto knife can be used to scrape the paint off the raised letters when the paint is nearly dry.

I think you'll have better luck using this approach. Paint the whole piece first. Then when the paint is starting to get tacky, wrap a piece of cotton cloth (old jockey shorts are great for this!) around your index finger. Dip it paint thinner and wipe the green paint off the raised areas.

Good luck.

Might be effective, but what if you forget to wash the jockey shorts and put them on before the paint dries?
