I have an intermitent, now constant, gas leak on the Marvel Schebler TSX 683 carb of my Massey-Ferguson 35X. I have adjusted the float, did carb kit including changing the needle valve, checked the bowl and throttle bodies for cracks etc but can't solve the problem.
I am tired of tearing my hair out and have run out of hair anyway. Any suggestions out there? Ed

Ed, It could be an imperfect seal on the edges of the upper and lower halves. Just saw an article in ytmag that said to use two gaskets to seal it up. Carb was a Marvel Schebler on a Ford N. Similar carb to the one on the MF 35. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your comments. I tried doubling up on gaskets as I could see the gas creeping up (capillary action) to the top surface of the bowl. However that didn't cure it.
I finally solved it by going back to basics. It was the float; I had to ignore the spec'd 1/4" setting and increased the float level by at least another 1/8" to finally settle things down.

To others; be very careful making adjustments. Without anything to reference one can get the float so screwed up it can bind or bottom on the bowl.
Your help is much appreciated and this site is valuable.

I had about the same trouble with my mf 35 one time, It turned out to be a string caught in the filter with just enough of it coming out of filter to keep the main jet from sealing off.
hope this helps Gordon-(TN)

Thanks for your suggestion. Its very much appreciated. That would have been an odd one to spot.
I found the problem in the float adjustment. Details in follow-up to Randy.
Thanks again.
