I need to replace some gauges on my 1964 MF175. Where's a good place to get them and a voltage regulator? The local outfit wants $40+ each for the small ones. Also, does anyone know the paint scheme and/or color numbers? Thanks.

NAPA usually has voltage regulators for just about anything you might need. Unless you are stuck on restoration and preservation, converting to a better internally regulated alternator is cheaper.

I did the entire conversion for less than the cost of a regulator.

I'm also looking for a replacement tach for my 2135. I want an electronic version to replace the mechanical one.

YOU CAN GET A CAR TACH AT JC WHITNEY REASONABLE, BUT THEY USUALLLY HAVE SCALES O-6000 RPM, SO FOR A TRACTOR YOU END UP LOOKING AT A SMALL PART OF THE SCALE. YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN ELECTRONIC, WITH A SIMPLE CKT. YOU CAN THEN CALIBRATE IT TO USE THE FULL SCALE-LIKE TO 2500RPM.

I don't have a NAPA store in my area, but I'll check AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts. You know, I believe that it has a newer alternator on it. Maybe that's why they ripped the regulator off of it. What do I need to check to see if I still need a regulator? Thanks again.

An internally regulated alternator will have only 3 terminals. One heavier gauge lug is the output and supplies regulated power to the battery. The other two are a field wire (exciter) that essentially turns the alternator on and off (it most often ties to the ignition on switch) and a sense line that can tie to the battery post (for long leads) but more than likely is tied straight to the output lug.

I'll send you an article on alternator upgrade. Check your e-mail.
