Hey guys, I have a 44D that has a completly rebuilt motor. I bought 2 new 6 volt batteries for the rebuilt starter. It wouldn't budge it. Then I pull started it and let it run an hour because I thought OK Maybe the motor is just tight. Still won't turn over. I took the starter off and bench tested it. Seems to work fine. Then I went to buy a D4 battery for a bus. Still won't budge it. Is this a 24 volt starter or something? I thought it was 12V negative ground. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Make sure you have heavy battery cables on it. And it is a positive ground. How do you bench test it? Just making sure it spins without a load won't guarentee it will turn that big engine over. Also, do you have the batteries connected in a series so it makes 12 volts? Positive from one battery to the negative to the other.

I just rebuilt a 44 diesel also. It takes two volt batteries tied together between a negative and positive terminal. They are grounded positive. This produces 12 volts for the starter. My tractor would only start with the starter as the rear wheels locked up when we tried to pull start it. The engine is quite tight with the new rings.
