Hydraulic pump rebuild

I am rebuilding the hydraulic pump on my MF50 tractor. I have a valve rebuild kit and my question is: should I lap the valves into the valve body with a fine lapping compound or just put them in without lapping them into the valve seats?

Any other tricks/tips for the pump rebuild would be greatly appreciated.

There is a tool for recutting the seats if they are worn. I usually recut them when I overhaul a pump.

Tom, Where can someone get this tool and how much does it cost? My Massey dealer could not get it and the original manufacturer is out of business.
