Engine oil in MF165 Diesel keeps getting higher and higher on dipstick. I have replaced the mechanical fuel pump--thought maybe diaphram in pump was ruptured. That didn't fix it--any ideas as to what maybe causing the problem and how to fix it? Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dobbs

Had the same problem on my 255 with perkins engine. The first time it was the fuel lift pump. OIl in crankcase kept getting thinner and rising. Easy to replace. Cost $28.00. Will need to bleed the fuel lines. Last time it was front seal on injector pump. Had it replaced at dealer for $150.00 parts & labor.Hope this helps.

You are a very lucky man Dobbs. The price of petroleum products have gone sky high and you
are making oil, who needs an oil well when your
tractor is making it, good job.LOL Wish I knew
what your problem is with the tractor. Good Luck.

Assuming that elves are not adding engine oil at night, the first step is to find out what fluid is leaking into the oil pan. Drain about a quart into a glass jar. Let it sit long enough to separate and then sample the part that isn't engine oil. It's going to be water, fuel, or hyd/trans fluid. Now you know where to start looking. Water comes from the cooling system, rain down the exhaust, or atmospheric moisture collecting in the intake manifold(check for a square drain plug here).
Fuel comes from a leaking injector pump, leaking nozzle, or excessive piston ring blow-by.
Hyd/trans fluid is a hard one to pinpoint because these systems are usually isolated from the crankcase.
Once you find out what the fluid is, you've got half the problem solved.

As a former MF dealer the problem is likely the fuel lift pump diapham if you have replaced that pump and the oil level is still increasing the likely cause is the input shaft seal on the fuel injector pump. If coolant leaked the oil would turn milk colored.Hope this helps.

My 165 loses Power steering fluid. I think it is going into engine. The power steering holds very little fluid so . If your engine oil is growing a great amount it is likely something else.

One quick question? Whats the weather like? Got a raincap on the muffler? This is also a possibility, just thought I would throw it out there. Kinda like throwing mud (or other similar brown substance if you prefer) at a wall, not all of it sticks, but some of it always does.

Hi Dobbs

If it is fuel you will see some bubbles on the
dipstick. Fuel may pass by a bad injection pump
shaft seal or thru the rings if one of the cylinders does not have enough compression to
ignite fuel it will be unburned and will follow the cylinfer wall to the oil pan. If one of the
injectors drips instead of spraying.. fuel may stay liquid and follow the cylinder wall to the pan.

Did you have to add coolant in radiator or oil
in power steering pump reservoir ? if not chances are that fuel is going in engine oil.

Good luck

Doesn't have any hydraulic fluid or antifreeze in it does it? Check those fluids and see if they're low.
