This tractor always ran great, until it was started with water in the air cleaner and it sucked some in. After realizing it and after cleaning the filter out it runs but with a knock being heard ? what do you believe got bent ? please give me some ideas. thanks alot Mike

You may just have bent a pushrod.

If engine not running same (smote) as before, I could belive that one rod get shorter. Check compression and you will see. If engine running as before it is no problem with compression.
A neighbour of me had that problem after he driven thrue water with his car. The airinlet to airfilter was pointing downwards and water is not possible to compress. He take cyl.head away tree or four time to check way it's no pressure in one cyl. before he saw that one piston was lower than the other at T.D.C. Peter

Hi Mike

Water at very high pressure and high
temperature in the combustion chamber transforms
in steam which is a very good cleaner. So a little
piece of carbon might be detached and is on one of the
pistons hitting the head. My suggestion is to put
carbon treatment additive for the fuel and run the
engine at low RPM until knock dissapears.

Second idea...
Accumulated carbon in combustion chambers stays red hot when engine is running..combustion must occur at the right time when injector spray fuel
in the cylinder and is ignited by the extremely heated air by compression. The red hot carbon changes the combustion characteristics by igniting the sprayed fuel..ignition then occurs by incandescence and compression..resulting a in a smoother detonation. If carbon is no longer present due to the (accidental steam cleanning) the detonation is heavier but in time. May be the little knock you ear is the normal ping for this type of engine. You may find a tractor with a similar good shape engine and compare the sounds of both.

Good luck

Joe Ferguson
