I am the new owner of a '55 TO 35, 4 Cyl. Gas. Unitl today the tractor has been starting fine but today it started something new. Frequently, when I turn the ignition key, the voltage gage shows 13 volts and there is an audible "click" but the engine will not start. Other times the voltage gage doesn't move. Even with a voltage indication the engine won't even try to turn over. The problem occured several times today; however, the tractor started several other times. Once or twice the tractor started right up after failing to start several times. I didn't do anything other than ensure turn the key again. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Jim

Paul's probably 100% right, but clean all connections from battery to starter first.

CH,

Thank you for your recommendation. Fortunately, a little more troubleshooting identified the positive battery cable as the problem. Its been replaced and the problem resolved. Again, thank you for taking the time to reply.

sincerely,

Jim

Agree with CH...before starting to replace things, clean all connections. Clicking means the solenoid is trying to actuate but is getting a weak pulse. When that happened on my MF 35, turned out to be corroded battery terminals/connections. Cheaper than replacing parts!

i think your problem might be a bad starter solenoid
