A friend and were taking this past weekend about tractors and how I wished I had one to tinker with. He said no problem and gave me a Massey Ferguson 35 Special. He told me that he had rebuilt the engine, clutches and hydrolics and only used the tractor for a short period of time before putting it in the barn. He said that the only thing wrong with tractor is flat tire (already fixed that) and that his son had blown the head gasket. Local tractor suppliers feel confident that they can parts for me, but I have not been able to locate the pattern for torquing the head bolts. Does any know the pattern or where I can find it? Is there anything that I should check, look for, beaware of or do while I have the head off? I would also like any general comments about these tractors.

Hi Sean -

Complete overhaul and head tourque info for the 23C (as well as gas and Perkins diesel) is included in the I&T manual MF-14 (TO35.. MF35.. MF 204); it should be available from our hosts here.

Sean;
I will address only one part of your post-
Get a set of manuals (owner's, service, parts) and you'll have made great investment (second only to the tractor itself! :-). They can be purchased through this site and elsewhere. Actually, your friend must have the torquing sequence since he rebuilt the engine...? Maybe he has the manuals, too! Anyway, have fun!
Roger
