MF-35, worth it?

Hello,

Need some advice. I have an old 9N Ford that needs some TLC...ok it needs to be restored from the ground up... but I need a tractor to mow with, NOW! A man down the road has a MF-35 for sale. Other friends tell me that the Massey is a far superior tractor.

This one starts and runs like a jewel. The body work has NO visible dents, but the paint is a little faded. It has a GM alternator added on the right side of the engine, but appears to be charging just fine. Good oil pressure. I know the lift arms work, but will at least make sure I can pick up a brush hog before making an offer, and see what the leak down is like. New (2-3 year old) rear tires.

The only visible flaws I can see are that the right rear seal (? I assume these tractors have a seal from the tranny somewhere on the rear axle) is leaking a little, and one of the front tires is dry rot cracking. The battery holder (box? the part under the hood) is rusted pretty good.

Is there anything else I should check? He is asking $2800.

Thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Odie

I have both.
Let me tell ya. The Massey would pull the ford backwards while it was cutting grass!!

You will not go wrong, price is right and you are not going to believe how much better an MF35 is to a N9. I almost made the mistake of passing a MF35 for an N9. Glad I didn't do that.
