My nephew just inherited a 1978 Massie Ferguson 230 gas. When the tractor gets at operating temperature the engine stops because of vapor locking. When tractor cools, then tractor will run for awhile longer. Contacted the local MF dealership and they said it was a common problem with the 230 and the only thing could be done is to trade the tractor for a newer model. Any help it solving the problem would be appreciated.

Thanks Wayne

I knew a fellow who had an old Ford Bronco, the original boxey type and it had a problem with vapor locking. I think, if I recall correctly, he took a finned power steering tube and connected it to his gas line, in place of the original. This allowed the heat to dissipate from the fuel line and solved the problem.

An old trick is to put wooden clothespins on the fuel line. This also disipates heat. Just clamp 2 or 3 of them onto fuel line, as close as you can get to the carb.

My dad had a MF 65 that did that. It had a exhaust that went down under the tractor. I made a adaptor and run the exhaust straight out about 6 inches and put a pipe el on and ran it up. This got the heat away fron the carb and solved the problem. Hope this helps.
