I am going to look at a MF 200 crawler / loader with a 4 in 1 bucket. I am not familiar with this tractor at all. I have been looking for a Case 450 or JD 450. Is this a comparable tractor? What is it worth? I would guess you can get them much cheaper than a Case or JD. I am looking to clear some land where we will be building a house. I want something that can push over/dig trees up to about 8" in diameter. Any thoughts you can give me is well appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

Case 450 loader- I just spent 3 days clearing on our place. Sure are nice little machines. Most of the older ones won't have brakes. The bucket will stop you in most conditions. The Case 450 around here sells for abour 2-3K less than the Deeres.

Depends on the amount of land you need to clear, but if you have limited heavy duty industrial tools, sheds, jacks, trailer capable of hauling a crawler, etc., you may want to just rent. I use Nations Renal and usually get an almost new JD-550 dozer or JD-555 track loader, depending on what my project is. They deliver/pickup do all the maintenance, etc.

Tom is right on about renting, unless..... .. you just have to have your very own crawler to keep you out of bars and pool halls on weekends. In that case, the make doesn't matter as much as the condition and price. They were all made pretty darn tough back in the 40's, 50's, and 60's.

Tom,

Yes, I have thought of that. I also have a neighbor who has a 955 high lift who will be doing my driveway and basement. I am looking for something to piddle with and shape up the land around the house.
Also, I didn't mention in my above post that I am building on a 120 acre farm. I thought a small dozer would be handy for other things as well. Plus I fall into the category of Big Boyz need Big Toyz if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the reply.

Jon

i have had 3 MF-200 in their day they were one of the best but that is where the good news stops. parts are no more unless you can find used ones and at that you will pay the price. i loved the massey ind stuff but if i were you go with the 450 case i have two of them and they are real tuff. get our self a 450 with loader and you will be happy and as for JD just look at all the post on this form asking for help
