I am considering the purchase of a MF35. I found a good example of the MF35 but it is diesel. I am not sure if diesel is the way to go. How have the diesels in the MF35 been, historically? Any particular problems with them? Is a gas MF35 better or worse then the diesel MF35?

Thanks

Stay away from the 4 cylinder diesel in the MF35. That is the Standard engine. I have a MF35 Deluxe with the 3 cylinder Perkins and I love it.

The Perkins 3 cyl diesel is really nice and very well regarded. I have one and it starts immediately and has plenty of power. Do a search of this site's past forums and you will see that the Perkins is the way to go. Get that tractor if it runs and is in good shape. You will not regret it.

Gas vs. diesel will get all kinds of arguments started. The MF 35 with the Perkins diesel is a good tractor with parts readily available. Same can be said for the MF 35 with the Continental gas engine. Just stay away from the Standard engines, gas or diesel. You can't find parts very easy at all for those.

I just read the previous postings, and the info I was looking for was there. By the way, it is the 4 cyl diesel.

Ryan, You said your MF35 has a four cylinder diesel. The four cylinder diesel in that tractor was a Standard diesel. If it was a Perkins it would be a 3 cylinder diesel. I would probably refrain from buying that tractor because I heard alot of bad things about Standard Diesels. They do not start good in cold weather and parts are very difficult to find..... ..... I also have the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel MF35. I have had is amost 10 years. It is an excellent tractor, plenty of power for its size, economical, easy to repair but rarely needs anything done.
