Looks like you've got the 537th rowcrop model 81 that was made. The first year of production (1941 which is your year) started with 400001 and ended with 403167 for the rowcrops. Wide fronts started that same year too. Production ended in 1946 for both versions and the 20's and 22's started that same year (1946). The model 82's were made at the same time as the 81's and I'm not sure how those two models differed from each other, that might be an interesting question to ask, they sure looked alike as did the 20's and 22's. I'm just getting this stuff from a book here, I don't really know it (it'll be forgotten by suppertime).

Sounds like you are pretty sure it is a Massey Harris so let's assume that it is. Go to the top of the transmission/differential housing. Between the cast iron shifting platform (that has the gearshift lever coming out of it) and the steel plate that covers the rear end gears will be the serial number. Between these two covers on the upper machined surface of that housing (on the left side near where the clutch pedal is) is a number which is hand-stamped into that machined surface. It won't be easy to find, start wire-brushing and scraping the paint away but it will be there. Post it here and someone will ID it for you and tell you the model and year too.

i think i have it figured out. i was looking at the pictures of a mh 81 and according to one comments, the 32 inch tires were only on two tractors, the 81 mh and the john deere H. and the serial # would match with an 81. am i halfway close mike? hehehe. anyway, is an 81 worth fixing? anybody have any tips? thanks

Jerry, you're making me blush. Yes, Jerry has been up here twice, the first time last summer with his wife and we saw some neat stuff in and around the area. He has sooooo much of that American money that it just falls out of his pockets as he walks around on the street !!! And he even spends some of it on old iron in Alberta !!
