I have a 65 that smokes heavy at idle and on acceleration. It is fuel for sure. Does not burn oil. Is this normal? Or can it be cured? At 1500 rpm under load can see a little out the back but not like idle or accelerating.

Help!

Kirk

these could cause: faulty injectors , incorrect injection pump timing ,clogged air cleaner ,improper valve adjustment ,burned worn or sticking valves ,excessive operation @ low engine speeds.

Kirk, talk about smoke!,my cousins son ran his Leyland 345 so hard he had flame coming out of the exhaust,he came to me in a panic, but I figured this was likely one of two things, too much fuel or not enough air, and sure enough the air filter was choked with enough earth tae plant tatties in, new filter, problem solved.

Sounds a little like it may not be getting enough air. I would look at the oil bath breather and hose. My hose was collapsing under a load and a new hose took care of it. I also went ahead and changed the oil in the breather while I was there.

I'd agree with that. Our JD2030 wasn't running right at all and would run up to quite high revs of its own accord sometimes. We pessimistically suspected the fuel injection pump. We got it refurbished and then discovered that all that was wrong was that the air intake hose was collapsing because the air filter was blocked. Doh! Maybe we should have checked that first! Dumb and dumber or what?? HOWEVER, "experience" usually means just having made quite a lot of mistakes and learning from them.
