The tach stopped working on my 1969 MF 150 last summer. I took it lose from the block, twirled the cable with my fingers and the gage was reading OK. Hooked the cable back to the block and the tach worked perfectly for about an hour and then it stopped again. Is there an easy way to fix the drive gear? Is it possible that the cable is too short?

Don about 90 percent of the time when this happen it is because the cable has rounded off where it goes into the Tach it's self. There is only a very small area that is square where the cable turns the Tach. When you removed the cable and put it back on you move the cable either in or out enough to get on a good part of the cable after it runs a while it will move back to it's original position & stop working again. It takes a new inter cable to fix the problem. Even looking at the cable you will not think that it is the problem but when you replace them they will work. I have been through this many times. It took me a few times before I figure out what was happening
